Data Folders

Data Folders help you organize individual data files or other data folders that hold multiple data files.

You can create new data folders to organize your existing data files, upload multiple files at once into a folder, or upload data folders containing multiple data files.

When creating data folders, the following requirements must be met:

  • Only supported files will be uploaded.
  • Files inside the uploaded folder are uploaded with the same hierarchy as the original folder.
  • If the folder is empty or contains no supported files, the file will not be uploaded.
  • Data folders and files must have unique names. If a folder with the same name exists, the contents of the newly uploaded folder will be appended to the existing folder with that name. If there’s a file with the same name it will not be uploaded (unless the overwrite checkbox was selected).

Supported Data File Types

Incorta supports these file types:

  • CSV
  • TSV
  • TAB
  • TXT
  • XLSX
  • GZIP and ZIP files

If you upload a compressed file (ZIP, GZIP), they will be uploaded as an uncompressed file into Incorta.

Share Data Folders

Sharing is enabled only for top-level folders and files. If a folder is shared, all its children files and folders are shared with the recipient along with their assigned access permissions.

To share a data folder:

  1. Hover your cursor over the row of the data folder you want to share.
  2. Select Share (people icon) located on the right side of the folder row.
  3. Enter the user, email address, or groups you want to share the folder in the With: field.
  4. Select the desired access role for this user.

    • Can view: User can view the folder contents but not share it with other users or edit its contents.
    • Can share: User can view and share the folder with other users.
    • Can edit: User can view, share, and edit the folder content.
  5. Select Share to confirm the action.

An email will then be sent to the user notifying them that the selected folder has been shared with them.

Delete Folders or Files

Deleting a folder deletes all its children files and folders. If you do not have Edit access to a file/folder, the Delete option will not be available.

To delete an individual folder or file:

  1. Hover your cursor over the file or folder you want to remove.
  2. Select Delete (trashcan icon).

To delete multiple folders or files:

  1. Select the desired files/folders with the checkboxes on the left side of the file/folder name.
  2. Select Delete (trashcan icon) located on the right side of the file/folder row. You can only delete files for which you have Edit permissions.
  3. Select Delete to confirm the action.

A confirmation message will then let you know the files have been deleted successfully.
