Every dashboard and insight is based on the application of filters that limit and structure the presentation of your data. Dashboard filters enable you to focus on specific data based on certain conditions. By applying multiple filters and adding filter parameters, you can narrow the scope of your data to get to the level of detail that you want.
The basic types of dashboard filter configurations include:
- Runtime Filters
- Applied Filters
- Presentation Variables
Users must have Edit Permissions to dashboard objects in order to build dashboards, apply runtime filters, or save filters as bookmarks .
Your Incorta Administrator will configure and manage the permissions required for a user to have viewing, sharing, and editing privileges for dashboard filters.

Before you begin creating dashboard filters, familiarize yourself with some common terms you may encounter in the instructions. These terms will be used to help you navigate the landscape of the dashboard filter interface.
These terms include:
- Filter Bar
- Filter Dialog Box
- Column Pane
- Value Pane
Dashboard runtime filters are created from the Analyzer screen.
To get to the Analyzer, choose a dashboard from the Content screen.
From there you will use the filter bar, search bar, and filter dialog to create and apply your dashboard runtime filters.
The filter bar is located directly below the dashboard title and contains controls and components that allow you to:
- Search for and select filter values
- Select column filters, filter operators, and filter values
- Hide & clear filters
- Create bookmarks for selected filter expressions
Enter a search term into the Search box located in the dashboard’s filter bar to filter your dashboard. The search feature will auto-complete and return filter columns matching results related to the corresponding column.
In order to apply a filter you need to specify:
- An attribute to filter.
- An operator to set the filter condition.
- One or more value(s) to filter.
Options for each of these filter components are located in the filter dialog box, the window you use to make your filter selections.
To open the filter dialog box: select Filter (the funnel icon) from the filter bar.
The filter dialog box consists of two panes: a column pane and a values pane.
- Column pane shows all exposed dimensions from every insight on the dashboard and gives you a selection of columns to choose as your filter attribute.
- Values pane allows you to specify the filter expression operator and select one or more filter values for the filter attribute you chose from the column pane. It contains a search feature to help you find specific indexed values or you can choose to Paste Values from a CSV or XLSX file as well.
Depending on the data type of the selected filter column you choose, the values pane also presents dynamic options to help specify a value for selection. For example, for a filter column that presents a Date, the values pane will generate a Select date component.
Managing dashboard filter configurations and settings is primarily an Incorta Administrator task that can be handled in the Dashboard filters part of Incorta. This is separate from the Analyzer, where users can create** Dashboard Runtime Filters**.
From Dashboard filters, your Incorta Administrator can manage Prompts, Applied Filters, and Presentation Variables.
To get to Dashboard filters:
- Select a dashboard from the Content screen.
- Select More options (kebab icon) from the dashboard action bar.
- Select Manage Filter & Prompts to open the Dashboard filters screen.
From the Dashboard filters screen you can:
- Build new formulas
- Set up Prompts
- Create Applied Filters
- Create Presentation Variables
- Choose Filter Options
When you apply a User filter to one Insight, the same filter is applied to each Insight on your dashboard. This is true for any User Filter, regardless of which filtering method you use.
